A wrongful death lawsuit was filed today for the death of a 48-year-old man that was killed in a parking lot. The lawsuit states that a group of white teenagers are responsible for the man’s death.
The lawsuit claims the fatal act a hate crime, outlining a night of drinking that caused a caravan of teenagers from a white suburban county, to find African-Americans to harass.
The suit also includes charges of battery and negligence.
A security video shows two carloads of teenagers driving into the parking lot, while some jump out of the car and go toward the victim.
As reported by police, the man was beaten and robbed and then run over by a Ford pickup truck, killing him.
While the attack was happening, one of the teens yelled “white power” and other used a racial epithet.
The young man driving the pickup truck, is
facing capital murder charges and is being held without bond. Another young man who was in the second vehicle has been charged with assault and released on bond.
The family of the victim created the James Craig Anderson Foundation for Racial Tolerance.
“If you met him, the first thing you were going to see was that grand piano smile,” said his oldest sister, Barbara Anderson Young, who is one of the plaintiffs in the suit.
Davis Law Group is deeply saddened by this violent crime that took an innocent man’s life. We wish the family all the best in pursuing the wrongful death lawsuit.
