Woman Kills a Man While Texting and Driving, Will Not Face Jail Time

texting while driving kills
A 21-year-old woman killed an 80-year-old man while texting from behind the wheel. She pleaded guilty to murdering the man when she failed to stop at a four-way intersection.

Instead of jail time, she has a rather unusual punishment for her crime.

Her sentencing includes a lifelong ban from having a cellphone in her car and touring local schools to talk to kids about the dangers of texting and driving.

Since she did kill someone, jail was a definite option. However, the victim’s family is in full support of this unusual sentencing.

This punishment is intended to teach young drivers that texting while driving can ruin your life and kill another’s. It is a very impactful message that she will be sending - as it is her personal story.
