Date: February 26, 2011, 02/26/2011
Location: Kent, King County, Washington
Type: Pedestrian accident, Car accident
Outcome: One dead
Early Saturday morning a 23-year-old woman was struck and killed while walking in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Kent.
An eyewitness told authorities that they saw the young woman get out of a car that had pulled to the side of the interstate around 1:30 a.m.
The woman left the car and began to cross the lanes of traffic. Many witnesses called 911 to report a person walking in the road. Shortly after those reports, she was hit and killed by a Chevrolet Suburban.
The man driving the Suburban was not injured and police did not have any immediate reason to criminally charge anyone involved.
After investigation, witnesses confirmed that the woman did not try to avoid oncoming vehicles, and do not know the reason why she entered traffic.
The collision blocked the right four lanes of southbound I-5 for nearly three hours.
