One person was killed and another was injured in a motorcycle accident in Bellevue on Wednesday night. Around 7 p.m., while riding his motorcycle, a 20-year-old man struck a barrier on the interchange from Interstate 405 to Interstate 90. The impact of the collision threw the driver and his 26-year-old female passenger over the edge of the freeway and on to the express lanes 40 feet below.
The driver and passenger were both taken to Harborview Medical Center where the 26-year-old woman was declared dead on arrival.
Washington State Patrol reported that both riders were wearing helmets but the crash is still under investigation.

- Forty-five percent of deaths in single-vehicle motorcycle crashes in 1998 included drivers with blood alcohol concentration at or above 0.10%.
- Nine out of 10 motorcycle deaths in 1998 were males. Seventy-seven percent of the females who died in a motorcycle crash were passengers and 98% of males who died were drivers.
