A woman and a toddler were injured in West Seattle on Wednesday afternoon after they were struck by another vehicle in the Admiral District.

While crossing the intersection of California Ave SW and Lander St, a 25-year-old woman and a 2-year-old child were struck by a yellow smart car.

The woman, who was the child's nanny, suffered a broken foot. The toddler suffered injuries to the face and head. Both were taken to Harborview Medical Center and are in stable condition. The driver of the smart car was not injured, and the vehicle showed no signs of damage.

Authorities are still looking into what may have caused the crash but due to the circumstances of the accident, it is believed that the smart car driver was not paying attention to their surroundings when they decided to turn.

Child Car Accident Statistics
According to the National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA), nearly 250,000 children are injured every year in car accidents, about 700 children every day. Of the 250,000 kids injured each year, approximately 2,000 die from their injuries. Children make up about 5% of total fatalities due to car accidents. Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for children between 2 and 14. Car accidents are also the leading cause of acquired disability for children nationwide.

Seattle Child Injury Lawyers
According to a report issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), more than 2,000 children are killed in accidents or die from an unintentional injury every day, and every year tens of millions of children are left with life-long disabilities. When a child is hurt or killed as a result of someone else's negligence, a claim by the child's parent(s) can be a difficult and sensitive matter, requiring the requisite amount of understanding, compassion and patience obtained through years of experience in working with survivors in these situations. Chris Davis and everyone at the Davis Law Group send out their heartfelt get-well wishes to the family of the toddler that was injured in this terrible accident and urge them to find a capable child injury lawyer that will help them with their case.
