SHELTON -- The Washington State Patrol is testing young drivers. It is challenging them to drive while talking on cell phone calls and texting. In two weeks a new law bans hand-held cell phones in cars. It'll be a $124 fine.
The law will be a secondary infraction just like seat belts. They have to pull you over for something else like speeding and then they can ticket you also for not using a hands free device.
July 1st is the date of the change for phones. Texting while driving has already been outlawed since the start of the year.
