Washington State Accident News - May 17, 2008

YELM - Street racing may be linked to a traffic death near Yelm, and vehicular homicide charges may be filed.  Washington State Patrol says alcohol also was involved in the crash.  The 20-year-old driver of a 2000 Ford Explorer died when it was overturned.  The 18-year-old driver of a 1982 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck escaped injury.

My son Cameron Harbin was killed in a horrific accident while street racing in Spanaway WA October 15th 2007. It is my understanding the other kid involved only recieved a minimil citation. Why is it that my son paid the ultimate price, his life, for a very bad decision he made that night while this other kid walks with a ticket! If an innocent bystander had been killed while my son and this other boy were racing they both would be facing serious charges and possible prison time. This hardly seems fair. I have been looking into the laws in the State of Washington and it seems to me the penalties should be a hell of a lot stiffer then they are. Street racing is a problem in Washinton State and our children are getting killed and injured as parents we need to all take a stand and protect and teach our children about the dangers of street racing and safe driving habits. These kids are going to race and they need a safe place to do it. I support any raceways in Washington State that have programs for teens to race. Here in Spokane we have the Friday Night Street Racing Program and as soon as the racetrack opens it will be up and running again and I support it 100% I don't know where to start to fight for a change in our laws but I have just written to my state legislators and will be starting there.
Thanks for listening
God Bless
