TUKWILA, Wash. --
A known car thief was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase in South Seattle. The chased started in Kent and ended inTukwila early Thursday morning with the driver crashing the stolen truck.
At about 1:30 a.m. a police officer spotted a stolen pickup truck in the 5200 block of Military Road in Kent . When the officer tried to pull the car over, the suspect sped off. Police chased him to Tukwila, near the SouthCenter mall, before the chase came to an end when he crashed into a retaining wall. The suspect did not suffer any serious injuries and was arrested immediately following the accident.
Investigators say the suspect has a history of car theft and the special auto theft task force had been looking for the suspect for weeks. The driver, a man in his 20s who police said has been taking between two and five vehicles a week in the area south of Seattle. The suspect is said to use the vehicles as a means of transportation and sells the property he finds inside the cars.
