On US 2 a man was killed in a car accident after another car lost a wheel on the highway. The man was traveling ahead of him and saw the accident happen in the rear view mirror.
The 34-year-old man was driving an Explorer eastbound when a van that was traveling westbound lost a wheel and it flew into the eastbound lane. The man swerved to miss the tire and went into ongoing traffic.
A 31-year-old man hit the wheel then caused the man’s father to be
hit and killed. His young son, 11, was in the vehicle and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. His other children, 8 and 6, were not injured.
The man who was driving the van that lost his wheel did not understand what happened he just felt his vehicle shaking.
"Five seconds later a wheel flies off," he said. "I see the wheel head straight up to the sky." The man in the Yukon had his 3-year-old daughter and 4-month-old son with him but they were not injured.
The legal question remains, how did the tire flee the van? Was it an
auto defect? These are questions that will arise from investigators of the fatal accident.
Davis Law Group sends condolences to the friends and family of the victim. We are deeply saddened to hear of this tragic and unlikely accident.
