Van collides with semi-truck on North Whidbey
One injured in Oak Harbor car accident
Motor vehicle collision caused by speeding
Date: February 14, 2011, 02/14/2011
Location: Oak Harbor, Island County, Washington
Type: Car accident, Semi truck accident
Outcome: One injured
William Growney, 77, was driving northbound on Taylor Road in Oak Harbor when he smashed his van into the back of a parked semi truck around 11 am. The collision impact was so intense that it totaled his van and forced the trailer into a right angle.
Growney was taken to Island Hospital in Anacortes with a broken wrist and minor cuts and scrapes. Hospital officials reported that he was in stable condition. The driver of the semi was not reported to be injured, and may not have even been inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Officials released that Growney may be cited for speeding too fast to avoid a collision. But it has been reported that this particular stretch of roadway is a common place for collisions because of poor visibility caused by the flatness of the road. Locals plan to petition the county to have the speed limit reduced.
