Two teens were injured in a suspected DUI collision in Toppenish on Saturday. After midnight while driving on Cheyne Road past Yakima Valley Highway, 19-year-old Juan Mares lost control of his car and rolled it twice before coming to rest in a field. Mares and his 15-year-old passenger were taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Washington State Patrol believes that drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, but the incident is still under investigation.

In Washington State, 54% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes involve a driver that was under the influence of alcohol. In 2009 265 people in Washington State lost their lives in drunk driving crashes.
Washington State Underage Drinking Law
A person must be over the age of 21 to purchase or consume alcohol. Washington State Law: Driving Under the Influence A person is guilty of driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or any drug if the person drives a vehicle within this state: (a) And the person has, within two hours after driving, an alcohol concentration of 0.08 or higher as shown by analysis of the person's breath or blood made under RCW 46.61.506; or (b) While the person is under the influence of or affected by intoxicating liquor or any drug; or (c) While the person is under the combined influence of or affected by intoxicating liquor and any drug.
