Two Killed in Head-On Collision on Hwy 101 in Jefferson County

DISCOVERY BAY, Wash. – On September 11, 2008, two people were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 101 in Jefferson County.  The accident happened when a 1993 GMC pickup collided with a 33-foot RV towing a car at about 9:45 a.m.  Both occupants in the pickup truck were killed.  They were identified as Richard A. Kindelspire, 62, and Taylre Kindelspire, 56, both of Brinnon. Both died at the scene.

Witnesses state that the GMC truck was heading north on Highway 101 when it veered onto the shoulder.  The driver overreacted and the truck went across and over into the southbound lanes and into the path of the oncoming motor home.  The impact was significant and completely destroyed the front end of the GMC truck. 

It was not known why the driver of the GMC truck veered onto the shoulder of the road.  No obstructions or hazards were reported by any of the witnesses.  Preliminary indications are that the GMC truck driver was not paying attention.
