Two teenagers were killed and four more sustained significant injuries from a car accident in South Seattle Sunday evening that reportedly may have been the result of a street race.
According to Q13 Fox News, 16-year-old Luis Martinez was driving an Acura Integra in the 9200 block of 8th Avenue South at around 8 p.m. when he crashed into a pole. The Seattle Police Department (SPD) says the car was traveling northbound on 8th Avenue South when Martinez failed to negotiate a turn and lost control of the vehicle.
SPD officials say the impact of the car accident killed Martinez on impact. 13-year-old passenger Lucie Hernandez survived the initial crash and was taken to Harborview Medical Center, but she died later from her injuries. Four other passengers involved in the South Seattle accident were taken to the hospital and their conditions range from critical to serious.
The SPD says it is unclear if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the deadly collision.
