Tumwater Police Officer seriously injured after K9 attack

During a burglary investigation in Olympia off of Custer Way on Sunday night, 11/14/2010, a Tumwater police officer was attacked by a K9 unit belonging to the Thurston County Sheriff's Office. He drove himself to Providence St. Peter Hospital but his injuries were serious enough that he was taken by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Officials think that the officer was bitten while trying to apprehend the burglary suspect. The incident occured in dark building and there may have been communication issues between the officer and the K9 handler so the K9 unit is not believed to be at fault and is still working for the sheriff's office.
