A female pedestrian was seriously injured in a Tukwila crosswalk hit and run accident.

The woman was taken to Harborview Medical Center for her injuries.

According to the Tukwila police, the accident which took place in the 15200 block of Tukwila International Boulevard happened around 1:30 a.m.

Witnesses say the accident victim was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a car headed northbound. The driver hit the woman and drove away from the scene.

Tukwila police followed the car to the 13000 block of 34th Avenue South where they found it empty. They eventually found the driver and took him into custody.

Police cited alcohol as a factor in this accident and the suspect was taken into custody.

Accident statistics state that in the United States alone, about 5,000 pedestrians die each year from pedestrian accidents.
