Truck Driver Falls Asleep At The Wheel And Rear-Ends Pickup & Camper | Seattle Personal Injury Attorney

A 57 year old man was driving a pickup truck that was hauling a camper/trailer when the driver of a semi truck/ big rig loaded with 40,000 pounds of cargo reportedly fell asleep at the wheel and rear-ended the camper. The pickup spun around multiple times and was hit twice by the truck before stopping on the shoulder of the road. The driver of the pickup was knocked unconscious. He suffered a fractured rib and severe pain between his shoulder blades. He was diagnosed with an injury to facet joints and trauma to the spinal nerves at T6-8. He also suffered headaches and cognitive problems, including problems with speech, memory, and concentration. His stipulated medical expenses totaled about $17,900, and his future estimated medical expenses totaled about $56,000. A union carpenter and general contractor earning about $90,000 annually at the time of the accident, he is now disabled. The jury awarded the driver of the pickup just over $1.5 million. The parties subsequently settled for $1.75 million.
