Truck Driver Distracted by Cell Phone Kills 10 People in Van

A 45-year-old truck driver crossed the median and hit a van carrying family and friends that were headed to a wedding. They never made it to the wedding – ten people were killed due the driver making a call on his cell phone while driving.

After this fatal accident, a U.S. highway safety agency is recommending that all states ban texting and cell phone use by truckers and other commercial drivers.

The recommendation will now to go the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration along with all states for action.

In Washington State, this is already a primary law. It is bound by the state’s hands-free law. However, the law does not restrict drivers from using two-way radios or CBs.
