Tractor-trailer turns too sharply and causes accident with motorcycle

Motorcycle Struck By Semi-Truck

A motorcyclist stopped on his bike at an intersection. When the driver of a tractor-trailer owned by a well known cargo freight company., turned left at the intersection, it crashed into an SUV directly in front of the cyclist and dragged the vehicle backwards, colliding with the motorcycle.

The motorcycle driver suffered bilateral torn rotator cuffs requiring two surgeries. A general contractor with indeterminate earnings, he is now unable to raise his right arm above his shoulder, which limits his ability to work. His medical expenses were $77,000.

The driver of the motor cycle sued the freight company alleging that the tractor-trailer’s driver had entered an oncoming lane of traffic after making the left turn too sharply.

The case went to trial and the jury awarded the motorcyclist $536,000.
