The Washington State Patrol has issued the following media release:
It was a busy night for State Troopers in Thurston County Thursday night and early Friday morning. Three separate collisions occurred and three drivers were arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
The first collision occurred on James Rd Sw in the Rochester area around 5:00 pm. 58 year-old James A. Saccotelli was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer westbound on James Rd at the 10038 block. Saccotelli failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, rolled over, and was ejected from the vehicle. Saccotelli was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery. A blood draw was administered at the collision scene after probable cause was established that Saccotelli was driving under the influence.
The second collision occurred on Steamboat Island Rd at 41st Ave at 00:53 am Friday morning. 26 year-old Rachel R. Ellingsworth was driving a 2002 Saturn traveling east on 41st Ave approaching Steamboat Island Rd. Ellingsworth failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection, left the roadway, and struck a power pole shearing it off at its base. Steamboat Island Rd was closed both directions for approximately 4 hours. State Troopers established probable cause and Ellingsworth was arrested on suspension of driving under the influence at the collision scene. Ellingsworth was not injured.
The third collision occurred on Vail Rd Se at Bald Hill Rd Se. 22 year-old Harlan C. Nemmers was driving a 2001 Chevrolet S-10 pick-up. Nemmers left the roadway and struck a power pole shearing it off at its base. State Troopers established probable cause and Nemmers was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence at the collision scene. Nemmers received minor injuries.
Collisions like these are completely preventable. Making the choice to drive impaired can change your life or the life of someone else in an instant. These collisions caused thousands of dollars of damage to property and forced numerous work crews to be called out from Puget Sound Energy. Both vehicles in the power pole collisions couldn’t safely be removed until the poles could be secured. Please don’t drink and drive.
