Starting today, the King County Target Zero Force is working to prevent drunk driving. There will be more officers on the roads through Labor Day, for the annual “Drive Hammered, Get Nailed” campaign.
Also, new to the campaign is the new law that just passed requiring cars to be towed from the scene of the DUI and impounded for 12 hours. This prevents people from getting their cars after they are released from jail and want to drive drunk
again.
"The towing companies are aware they know of our mobilization calendar," said Annie Phare, Target Zero manager. "So they know that this campaign is happening, and they're aware that things are going to be pretty busy over the next few weekends."
Last year in King County, during the "Drive Hammered, Get Nailed" campaign, officers arrested 438 people for driving under the influence. Extra patrols start Friday night.
