The
2010 National Distracted Driving Summit kicked off with an announcement from U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood that he is proposing new regulations that would prohibit commercial truck drivers from texting while transporting hazardous materials.
Truck drivers have been banned from texting since January of 2010, when LaHood and FMCSA Administrator Anne Ferro announced a texting ban through a federal "guidance" stating that texting was prohibited under existing distracted-driving rules.
Distracted driving accident attorney Chris Davis of
Davis Law Group in Seattle, WA says that he has seen an increase in the number of
semi-truck accident cases in recent years involving a truck driver that was distracted by text messaging.
