Around 6:55pm on Tuesday October 19th, William Johnston, an 18-year-old from Olympia lost was killed after he lost control of his 1998 Toyota Camry on Hawks Prairie Road in Lacey. Johnston was speeding when his car drove off the road into a power pole and continued into an iron fence. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers, Mahan E. Mitchell and Forest Graber, both 17, were taken to Providence St. Peter hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
It has been concluded that drugs and alcohol were not the cause of this accident. Johnston was attempting to reach 100mph in a 40mph area when he lost control of his car and spun out. His mother visited North Thurston High School, where all three boys attended, to share her grief and to warn his friends and fellow students to always take caution when driving.
As friends and family mourn this terrible loss, Washington State Patrol hopes that the impact of this tragedy will remind teen drivers to follow the speed limit and drive carefully for their own safety and the safety of others.
