Teen Hit and Dragged by Train Loses His Leg

A 19-year-old resident of Snohomish is fighting for his life in a hospital in India after he was hit and dragged by a train. David Ricci was in India for three weeks for a trip with a group of youth missionaries before the train accident.

Ricci’s leg was amputated after receiving critical injuries and losing a lot of blood.

Ricci’s family is coordinating efforts to bring him back to Washington for quality medical care. His mother step-father are with him in India.

His sister Carissa Ricci says that the hospital isn’t sterile and they cannot talk to him on the phone. He is fighting infection and not stable enough to move she says.


If a doctor was not on the scene, Ricci may not have survived the train accident.

Ricci attended Everett Community college, before deciding to take time off to travel. The group he was with is called “Youth With a Mission.” The group was formed at Mill Creek Four Square Church and is in India to help patients through Mother Teresa's Home for the Dying and Destitute.

The Ricci family hope that he will be stable enough to come home in the next few weeks.
