Teen Texting & Driving Statistics
A 2008 study by Transportation Research Laboratory found that the reaction time of drivers between the ages of 17 and 24 is reduced by 35 percent when texting and driving, compared to 12 percent when driving at the legal alcohol limit.
Despite this of the almost 700 teens surveyed in a State Farm Insurance study, 78 percent strongly believe they could get into an accident while drinking and driving as opposed to 63 percent believe they could get into an accident while texting and driving. According to the study, more than half of the teens think they could be killed one day while drinking and driving and only 36 percent see texting and driving as being potentially fatal.
Seattle distracted driving accident attorney Chris Davis says that his office has seen a steady increase in the number of automobile accident cases that involve someone who was texting while driving at the time of the accident.
