Teen Boy Drowns at Lake Tapps

A 16-year-old boy drowned in Lake Tapps Thursday afternoon while he was swimming with his friends and family at Allen York Park, just east of Sumner. Police say that the boy was underwater for approximately five minutes before he was rescued by bystanders, who performed CPR on the boy until emergency crews arrived on the scene.

The boy was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated, but was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival. KOMO news reports that the boy was a sophomore football player at Bonney Lake High School. Thursday was reportedly the final day of the 2011-2012 school year for students at BLHS, and the boy was likely celebrating the end of the year at the lake.
