Supreme Court Justice's Stephen Breyer Injured in Bike Accident

Stephen Breyer, Supreme Court Justice, was in a bicycle accident resulting in a broken collarbone.

The accident took place near his home in Cambridge, Mass.

Kathy Arberg, Supreme Court spokeswoman, said the accident did not prevent him from upholding his duties. He spoke the following week in New York City. He did not suffer from any major injuries.

This was not Breyer’s first bike accident. The 72 year old was hit on his bicycle in 1993, in which he suffered more serious injuries including broken ribs and a punctured lunch. He was biking across Harvard Square when a car hit him.

Bicyclists are more active on the road this time of year - the sun is out and the gas prices are up. Unfortunately, that also means that the bicycle accident rate is high as well. Be very cautious of your surroundings, and most importantly, be patient.

We have two recently uploaded articles in our library about bicycle safety, tips for motorists and tips for bicyclists.
