A Washington State Trooper was injured in an I-5 car accident around 11 a.m Friday near Marysville.

The officer, who had to be extracted from his patrol car, was taken to Providence Hospital with neck and back pain.

The accident took place about two miles north of the Seattle Premium Outlet Mall around milepost 204 near the Marysville section of I-5.

According to trooper Keith Leary, the trooper on speed patrol had pulled his unmarked car to the left shoulder when a Ferndale man lost control of his car and crossed lanes of traffic hitting the right side of the trooper's patrol car.

The driver was arrested on charges of suspected drunk driving and was taken to Providence Medical Center in Everett before he was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for vehicular assault.

The man's wife and daughter were in the car at the time of the accident but were uninjured.
