Soap Lake Infant Dies In Drunk Driving Accident
Date: January 20, 2009Location: state Route 17, two miles south of Soap Lake, WA

Outcome: one dead, one injured
Douglas McGowen, of Spokane has been booked into the Grant County Jail for vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. Apparently McGowen consumed large amounts of alcohol prior to driving his vehicle in the accident that caused the death of an infant.
The child was riding with her father Leon C. Schooler when they collided with McGowen's 1985 GMC truck on SR 17. Officials say that McGowen swerved into the northbound lane where Schoolers vehicle was oncoming.
Mr. Schooler was airlifted to Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane for unspecified injuries. He child died at the scene.
