SEATTLE - An even advertised on social-networking sites encouraged bikers racer to try to race the South Lake Union Trolley (S.L.U.T.) but one cyclist got his front wheel caught in a groove of a streetcar rail. He fell over his handlebars and was knocked out. The race and streetcar stopped for about 45 minutes as emergency vehicles rushed to the scene. The biker was taken to Harborview Medical Center with a mild concussion and a dislocated shoulder.
Later the race continued. But this event highlighted an issue that Seattle bikers have with the streetcar. Bikers say that it poses a danger to them. According to the Cascade Bicycle Club, there have been at least a dozen bicycle crashes requiring medical attention caused by the trolley tracks----injuries range from cuts to broken bones.
