School Bus Safety Awareness Week | Seattle Injury Attorney

October 19-23rd is National School Bus Safety Week, and schools all over the nation are working to ensure the safety of our children.

This year the theme is "Avoid Harm, Obey the Stop Arm," the American School Bus Council believes the theme fits in well with school bus safety and provides the opportunity for drivers to be reminded that they are also responsible in keeping our children safe on the bus and on the roads.

For several years, Washington State Patrol has used an Electronic Vehicle Inspection Report from Zonar Systems, that utilizes RFID technology, to record data and ensure no defects are found on the buses. The EVIR has a 99.98 percent success rate.

Washington State has more than 10,100 school buses and this week in Seattle, demonstrations of the excellent school bus inspection program that keeps more than 500,000 children who ride the buses safe from any defects were shown to the public and media.

According to national school bus accident statistics, since 1990, 1,450 people were killed in school bus accidents, but of those 1,450 people, only 9 percent were riding in the school bus.
