A 6-year-old girl now behaves as a newborn baby due to the damage from a roadway debris accident, leaving her brain permanently damaged. Emily Sumaya was secured in a car seat in the back of her aunt and uncle’s Subaru when the rear wheels from a semi-trailer in front of them began to spark.
Following the spark was an explosion and storm of glass.
When Sumaya’s parents got to the scene of the crash, her skull was shattered and her face was covered in blood.
There was no immediate sign of what happened to the young girl. Then a silver ball caught the attention of her mother, Eh Sumaya. It was embedded in the cushion next to her car seat.
It was a 7-pound coupling from a trailer hitch.
Sumaya is permanently brain damaged and requires nurse’s attention 16 hours a day. She is still in the hospital from her injuries from the
roadway debris accident.
Prior to the accident, Sumaya and her aunt and uncle spent the day at a water park and were headed home to watch a movie and eat ice cream.
The owner of the trailer hitch is still unidentified.
When Sumaya’s 4-year-old brother is asked about his sister he replied, “A truck hit her in the eye.”
The girl will continue to receive treatment at the hospital for her
severe brain injuries.
Davis Law Group sends positive thoughts to the Sumaya family, wishing Emily a recovery.
