Refugee Woman Injured in Pedestrian Accident near Kent | Seattle Injury Attorney

A woman was critically injured in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident in Kent around 5 a.m. on Monday.

The woman, a Kent resident and refugee from Bhutan was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with serious injuries.

She was attempting to cross Benson Road, a busy five lane street near the Kentwood apartments, to get to the bus stop which took her to work when she was hit by a car.

The driver who hit the woman did eventually turn himself in.

According to a World Relief representative, accidents involving refugees are becoming more common. "It's really hard if you don't grow up around cars. Oftentimes the rules of the road are completely foreign to refugees," said the representative.

According to the National Highway Safety Association, fifteen percent of all traffic fatalities on the weekday happen between 4 and 8 a.m.
