There has been an investigation opened by the government into whether a brake defect in model year 2007 and 2007 Nissan Altimas. There were approximately 440,000 vehicles potentially affected.
The NHTSA says it received 20 complaints and the Altima’s brake master cylinder leaking. In two separate cases, the leakage caused the brakes to not work effectively. The fluid that is leaking causes the brake warning light on the car to light up.
NHTSA also says that Nissan’s own dealers found leakage in the master cylinder, which is not the first time this problem has occurred. In July 2009, Nissan recalled 169,000 Sentra due to a defect that caused leakage. This recall was for vehicles made in the same time period as the Altimas.
NHTSA warns that drivers need to be aware of this problem and that attention must be paid to the warning light.
In a statement, Nissan said they are aware of the problem and they are working with the government. It is unknown if any accidents have been caused by this
auto defect problem.
Seattle auto defect attorney Chris Davis warns all drivers to be very cautious if you are the driver of a 2007 and 2008 Nissan Altima. If you believe this problem could be a threat, please go to a Nissan dealership.
