A Stennis Sailor received a critical pedestrian accident injury early Tuesday morning in Bremerton.

Emergency crews wanted the woman to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center but had to be taken to Tacoma General Hospital and then Madigan Army Hospital because weather conditions wouldn’t permit for her to be airlifted.

The woman injured is a sailor based on the USS John C. Stennis.

According to Bremerton Police Sergeant Wendy Davis, the woman was crossing Burwell Street and Chester Avenue just before 6:30 in the morning.  The other cars on Burwell Street had stopped to let the woman cross but a car driven by a Puget Sound Naval Shipyard employee failed to stop and hit her. 

It was dark and rainy out and the woman was wearing dark clothing. 

We hope that she is able to make a full recovery.
