One person was killed and two were injured in a collision near Marysville on Monday afternoon.
A 16-year-old male was driving west on 108th Street Northeast when he lost control and struck a tree. He died at the scene. His two passengers, both males, one 16-year-old and one 17-year-old, were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after being critically injured and suffering serious facial fractures.
Washington State Patrol is investigating the accident and believed that speed was a factor in the crash.

- * Senior Drivers: Drivers over the age of 65 are second most likely to die in a car crash
- * Safety Disparity: Despite the fact that older drivers are on average slower, safer drivers, they are more likely to die in a car accident than younger drivers
Basic Speeding Rules and Limits
No person shall drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and having regard to the actual and potential hazards then existing. In every event speed shall be so controlled as may be necessary to avoid colliding with any person, vehicle or other conveyance on or entering the highway in compliance with legal requirements and the duty of all persons to use due care. Except when a special hazard exists that requires lower speed for compliance with subsection of this section, the limits specified in this section or established as hereinafter authorized shall be maximum lawful speeds, and no person shall drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed in excess of such maximum limits.
(a) Twenty-five miles per hour on city and town streets;
(b) Fifty miles per hour on county roads;
(c) Sixty miles per hour on state highways.
