On Monday night, just before 11 p.m., one person was killed and two were injured in a two-car collision on Interstate 5 near Seattle.

Two people were sitting in a Toyota Corolla that was parked in the disabled lane, next to the HOV lane, on northbound I-5 near Boeing Field when they were struck from behind by a Chevrolet pickup truck.

The driver of the Toyota, a 33-year-old male, was killed instantly. His passenger, a 27-year-old woman and the driver of the pickup were both injured and taken to Harborview Medical Center.

Troopers believe that there were two more passengers in the pickup truck that left the scene before authorities arrived.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Troopers are looking into why the Toyota was parked on the side of the freeway and why the pickup truck was unable to stop in time to avoid a collision.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 5 were blocked for over an hour while the scene of the crash was investigated.
