SEATTLE, WA -- One 60-year-old male passenger of a pedestrian cab was killed and five other people were injured when the pede-cab crashed with a scooter and a van last night in a Belltown intersection. Apparently the cab, with two passengers, suffered an equipment failure and was coming downhill westbound on the sidewalk of Cedar Street when it entered the intersection with Western Avenue against the red light. The cab crashed into a scooter and then hit a white van.
A few witnesses reported hearing a loud noise and screams when the accident happened. There have been allegations that the brakes on the cab failed, causing it to enter into the roadway where it was struck by the van. Brake failure is a recognized defense of liability under the law. A careful accident reconstruction of the accident must be pursued. The lawyers for the estate of the man killed should immediately perform investigation and hire experts to assist in reconstructing what happened.
