A woman was killed in a collision near Winlock on Monday afternoon.
 

Around 1 p.m. a 92-year-old woman was driving southbound on Highway 603 when she lost control of the vehicle and struck an embankment, a power pole, then a tree, rolling several times.
 

The woman needed to be extracted from her vehicle by a rescue team before being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center with chest injuries. She died at the hospital a few hours later.
 

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office closed down the Highway for an hour while the crash scene was investigated. There has been no reports as to the cause of the accident.

•     * Safety Disparity: Despite the fact that older drivers are on average slower, safer drivers, they are more likely to die in a car accident than younger drivers
