Early Saturday afternoon, a 30-year-old man from Olympia was driving intoxicated when his vehicle rolled over in Capitol State Forest near the Fall Creek campground. According to court papers, the female passenger in his car was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries.
The 30-year-old driver, Robbie Reading of Fern Street in Olympia, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault and is being held at the Thurston County Jail with bail set at $25,000.
Law enforcement officers received a report that an “unconscious female” had to be airlifted to Harborview with “serious head injuries.” The officers were dispatched to the scene of the accident Saturday at about 3:20 p.m.
The driver of the vehicle, Reading, and another passenger in his car, 21-year-old Alexander R. Villamil, were both transported to area hospitals with injuries.
Robbie Reading was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries. He later told police that he did not have a license.
A witness who was camping with the group but was not in the vehicle at the time of the accident stated Reading had been drinking till he passed out earlier that morning.
A State Patrol trooper claimed Reading smelled strongly of alcohol. He was later advised of his Miranda rights but waived them and told the trooper that he had only consumed two drinks before driving the vehicle.
A State Patrol investigator stated that the accident was caused by excessive speed around a corner, where the vehicle slid and stuck a stump, causing it to roll over.
