If you drive through downtown Seattle often, you may have noticed a higher amount of traffic at certain off ramps than usual for the last year. The reason for the higher amount of traffic at different off ramps has been that the Olive Way off ramp to Capitol Hill has been closed but it now re-open.
For the past year the ramp has been closed in order for two holes to be cut in an underground retaining wall, make it possible to safely bore the north and south bound tunnels for light rail to through the holes they've been cutting for the past year.
With this completed, workers can begin the first step of building a tunnel that will go under Capital Hill to the University District which is the next phase of
Seattle's light rail system. The tunnel digging will officially begin in fall 2011 and the current plan is to have theCapitol Hill and University light rail links will be operating in 2016.
