A police officer was injured in a car accident just before three on Thursday morning in Seattle.

The officer was treated at the scene but was taken to Harborview Medical Center to check out a sore neck and hand.

According to Seattle Police, the officer was on his way to work at the East Precinct driving east on east Pine Street when a suspected drunk driver heading west on Pine suddenly turned left onto Boylston Avenue in front of his car causing an accident.

The driver was uninjured and was arrested for drunken driving.

In 2008 there were 37,261 accident fatalities in the United States. In Washington State alone, there were 521 accident fatalities. Of those 521 accidents, 43 percent of them were alcohol-related.
