As the weather is getting a little warmer many people are beginning to open their windows. With all the open windows, a threat can be posed for kids who aren't being properly supervised.

When a child falls from a window, although less frequent than other child injuries, the outcome can be especially serioius leaving bad injuries or even death in a matter of seconds.

The National Safety Council is stressing the importance of parents or guardians role in taking precautions against these types of accidents.

Donna Stein-Harris, senior director of Off-the-Job Initiatives for the NSC recommends keeping windows closed and locked when kids are around or make sure it is out of a child's reach if one is left open.

The National Safety Council recommends the following steps to keep your children safe:
- Keep furniture away from windows.
- Don't just rely on screens to prevent kids from falling out windows.
- Enfore rules to keep kids from playing near windows or patios.
- Install building code-compliant devices to hinder how far a window will open.
- Teach your child how to use a window to escape in an emergency situation in a safe manner.
