Date: January 16, 2009
Location: Near Dike Road in Woodland, WA
Type: Multi-car accident
Dense fog was a contributing factor in a multiple car crash that resulted in the south lanes of Interstate 5 being closed for more than an hour. Apparently several cars collided on the freeway overpass during a period of extremely heavy fog and slick road conditions. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. The incident started at 7:10 a.m., when two cars collided. Then approaching cars tried to stop but could not avoid hitting the cars. A total of eight cars were involved in the pileup. The road was clear and traffic moving freely again by about 8:30am.
