A hit-and-run accident left one man with a motorcycle accident injury in West Seattle Wednesday afternoon.

The motorcyclist was taken to Harborview Medical Center. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

The accident took place around 1:45 in the afternoon when the motorcyclist was hit by a mini-van at Southwest Jacobsen Road and Beach Drive Southwest. The driver of the van drove away heading eastbound before getting rid of his van and running away on foot.

The man was later seen running through a yard and was detained by police after part of Beach Drive was contained. He was hiding between two houses and was taken into custody at 2:07 p.m.

The man also had a misdemeanor warrant and was being interviewed at the Southwest Precinct. No other details are available at this time.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), of all motorcycle riders, those in the age range of 20-29 years old had the largest percentage of fatal crashes, of which a major contributor was speeding.
