A mother and her daughter were seriously injured in a South Kitsap car crash Saturday around 3 p.m.
The mother, a South Kitsap County resident, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma and her daughter was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. They suffered from skeletal fractures, lacerations and internal injuries.
The mother was driving a 1992 Ford Aerostar van eastbound on SE Southworth Drive in the South Colby community in Kitsap County when she failed to predict a curve to the left. The van went off the road, over the south shoulder and hit a culvert.
Both people in the van were trapped inside from the force of the collision and had to be rescued with emergency equipment by South Kitsap Fire and Rescue firefighters.
Alcohol is thought to have been a factor in the crash. Both passengers were wearing their seatbelts.
According to National Car Accident Statistics, each year there are more than six million accidents in the United States.
