Man Steals Car From Tow Yard, Two Police Officers Sent to the Hospital

Davis Law Group hit and run reward program
A Fife man tried to steal his own car from police after it was towed, then hit three patrol cars in his efforts to get away. Two police officers were sent to the hospital with injuries.

The crash with the man took place in the impound yard Saturday evening, when he continued his attempt to escape while trying to drive without a rear tire.

"Parts of the truck were flying everywhere," says eyewitness Brian Wicklund.

Around 6 p.m., the man returned to the impound lot, got into his car, and fled from the scene. "Suspect rams through the gate, makes a turn," said Lt. Tom Thompson. "The officer that's coming up the road, he just slams head-on into him."

It was reported that the patrol car had excessive damage and both officers were checked into the hospital. While escaping, he also hit another driver before merging onto Pacific Highway.

"They guy's still got the juice on," says Wicklund. "He's still going. And they boxed him into the corner."

Another officer says he was not ready to give up yet.

"Put the car in reverse, put it in forward, but finally decided he couldn't get away. So he gave up."

The officers put the driver into custody and he is being held for investigation of felony hit-and run and eluding.

The suspect was allegedly involved in a shooting with Puyallup Tribal Police a year ago.

"The fact that he hit the officers head-on, that's dangerous in itself," says Officer Thompson.

"And then he lost a tire, but he still keeps driving on it. He's got two other police units behind him, and he's not stopping."

In the end, four cars were hit – three being police cruisers.
