Man Nearly Burned to Death Receives $14 Million in Settlement

Carl Cotright, the victim of a tanker explosion, was awarded $14 million for the burns that cover the majority of his body. Cotright was on the tanker filling it with a flammable liquid right before it exploded. When Cotright realized the tanker had caught fire, he was already in contact with the flames.

If the tanker had been grounded, it would have prevented the fire. Cotright suffered from second and third-degree burns on his torso, arms and legs. The victim sued Transport Company C & G Hot Shot Service. The company originally offered to settle for $15,000.
