Man Killed in Kalama Train Accident | Seattle Mass Transit Accident Lawyer

Type: Mass Transit Accident

Date: November 28, 2009, 11/28/09

Location: Kalama

Outcome: One Killed

A man was killed in a train accident in Kalama early Saturday morning.

The Cowlitz County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Michael L. Turpin, of Chehalis.

Kalama police say the man was killed when his pickup truck was hit around 2:10 a.m. by a northbound 13-car Union Pacific freight train in Kalama, a small town along the Columbia River.

Turpin had stopped on the tracks with his lights off. Police say it appears that Turpin had driven through a parking area to a spot where there was no railroad crossing.

Union Pacific officials say the crew members on the freight train were not hurt.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Michael Turpin at this difficult time.

Railroad statistics from the Bureau of Transportation state that there are about 3,000 train crashes each year. Approximately 80% of railroad crossings in the United States have no safety gates or lights.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a train or mass transit accident it would be in your best interest to speak with a Washington mass transit injury lawyer like the ones at Davis Law Group, P.S. for a free no obligation consultation.
