Man Killed in Lake Washington Boating Accident

A 33-year-old Mercer Island man died in a potential alcohol-related boating accident on Lake Washington August 10. He was wakeboarding with friends near Seward Park in Seattle at approximately 6 p.m. when the accident occurred.

The victim, identified as Nathan Bahner of Mercer Island, was being towed behind a boat towards land by friends when the accident took place. The people on board the boat towing Bahner immediately pulled him aboard and took him to a residential moorage on West Mercer Way before calling 911.

Mercer Island Fire Department EMTs responded within minutes of the call and provided medical aid and CPR to the man on the dock, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene of the accident.

Seattle Police Department (SPD) officers were later dispatched to Mercer Island to investigate the incident. The officers had reason to believe that the operator of the boat was intoxicated and arrested him on suspicion of boating under the influence (BUI).
