A man was injured in two-car collision on Bellevue Way on Monday afternoon.
Just before 3 p.m. a man driving a BMW northbound on Bellevue Way Southeast attempted a U-turn at the Sweylocken boat ramp and was struck by a truck. The driver of the BMW was trapped and badly injured. Authorities had to use the "Jaws of Life" to extract him from his car.
He was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was uninjured. Police have ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash but the investigation is ongoing.

The average number of traffic deaths per year from 1997 to 2001 was 650.6, and from 2002 to 2006 was 621.4, a 4.5% decrease.
